DBV member Taron loves the Brailliant BI 20X display and tells us why in this interview with Mark. Video and transcript below.
Mark: Good morning, Taron.
Taron: Hi Mark, how are you? Iโm not too bad, thanks.
Mark: Weโre here today at DBV to talk about one particular device.
Taron: The Brailliant BI 20X display. Iโve been using it for quite a few months and I actually love it. I love the fact that itโs very sleek and small. I can put it in my bag if I want, or I can have it around my neck like Iโve got it now, at the ready, connected to my phone, which is also in a little tiny bag. I can just do what I need to do with it, and I have the speech coming through my hearing aids.
It can also connect very seamlessly to other devices with a little button in the centre of the unit. I push that button and it will say โUSBโ. I can then have it plugged into a computer with JAWS, press Enter on USB, and it will just connect up so I can read whatever Iโm typing.
If I need to read something and I donโt want the speech going, I can just read whatโs on the display. For example, with my phone, I can turn the speech off and read whatโs on the display, and it does it so quickly. Itโs so much easier.
Itโs one of the best displays I would recommend for someone whoโs deafblind because itโs not confusing to set up. Thereโs also no confusion when pairing it to multiple devices and switching between them on the fly.
If you had an iPad, for example, you could pair it and then press the middle button, go down the list with your thumb key, and press Enter on your iPhone or iPad โ whichever one you want to choose at that moment. You might have been using your phone two seconds ago, then decide you want to check something on your iPad. You just press the round middle button, press your right thumb key to go down the list, press Enter on iPad, and carry on with whatever you need to do.
You can then do the same to go back to your iPhone. Thereโs no waiting at all.
Mark: So it seems like this device has really been a game changer for you. Compared to other devices, you have to connect to one device at a time.
Taron: You can connect to multiple devices with other displays, but itโs more challenging to disconnect from one and connect to another on the fly. With the Brailliant, itโs much easier. You just press that centre button, go down the list of all the devices youโve connected, and press Enter on the one you want โ on the device itself.
Then youโre connected to your iPad, your phone, your computer, and even your watch. You can connect it to your watch, which I think is really impressive and pretty cool.
Mark: Well, thanks, Taron, for your review of this device. I hope you keep enjoying it.
Taron: I love it. Itโs the best thing Iโve actually gotten. Itโs really good โ I love using it.
Mark: Great. Thank you for your review today. I really appreciate your time.
Taron: No problem, my pleasure.
