Services
1. Deafblind awareness workshops and presentations
Deafblind World is a 2-hour workshop presented by deafblind people. Participants experience an immersive activity simulating deafblindness, gain information about accessibility and connect with the Deafblind community. Workshops are tailored to suit your needs.
DBV also provides deafblind presenters for forums and community events.

2. Peer training
Deafblind people often learn best someone with lived experience of deafblindness.
We know what it’s like learn specific skills as deafblind people, including Braille, mobility, new ways to use technology, art/crafts and tactile Auslan.
Experienced peer trainers at DBV offer all of these skills, as well as “train-the-trainer” sessions for deafblind people who would like to become peer trainers themselves.
3. Peer mentoring
The process of losing vision or hearing and becoming deafblind can be overwhelming and profoundly isolating.
A deafblind mentor can be paired with a recipient according to their communication needs and shared experiences, and can give advice and support.
Peer mentoring is fundamental to the success of Deafblind Victoria; it has created pathways to leadership for many of our members who have gone on to paid employment, are confident presenting to groups, have positions on the Committee of Management and are proud in their Deafblind identity.
4. Co-navigation
A co-navigator’s role is to support a deafblind person at home and in the community with mobility and communication.
Co-navigation is a deafblind-led initiative that prioritises independence.
DBV’s co-navigators are also qualified Auslan interpreters and experts in various modes of deafblind communication, reducing the need to schedule multiple supports for one appointment. This makes things easier and cheaper!
5. Information, advice and referrals
DBV advises organisations, families and professionals about deafblindness on a range of topics, including braille resources, public transport, urban planning, website accessibility, advocacy training and public events.
Where we do not have the expertise ourselves, we provide referrals to other organisations through our networks.
6. Consulting
DBV can provide detailed advice about your resource, service, or deafblind accessibility.
Previous clients include Coles, Victoria Police, Guide Dogs Victoria, and Women with Disabilities Victoria.
Contact DBV if you would like any of the services described above.
