When Deafblind people from other countries encounter DBV’s interpreting tables, there is always great interest. These tables were co-designed by a deafblind person, DBV’s own Heather Lawson, and made especially for tactile signers. They are particularly useful at meetings and appointments.
The surface is cushioned so two signers can comfortably rest their elbows, and covered with strong black vinyl that is easy to wipe clean. It has two convenient cup-holders for coffee cups and water bottles. The steel legs are can be adjusted to different heights, and also fold away for travel. Two wheels make it easy to transport from one place to another. The whole table is durable and made to last.
These tables are now available to purchase, along with canvas travel cases with velcro fastenings, or hire for events. We’d love to see the tables all over the Deafblind world! By buying one you are also supporting a small Deafblind organisation.
Buy: (AUD) $1,480.00, including a soft travel case. Delivery outside Australia is extra. To order, email dbvfinance@gmail.com.
Hire (Melbourne only): $50 per day or $200 per week.
Here is a testimonial from Sunil, a happy customer from SEDB India:
My name is Sunil and this is my name sign. I am deaf blind. Some years ago, I started to lose my vision and moved to tactile sign language. I have worked with many interpreters over the years and I would start having aching arms and the interpreters suffered the same way. As we are together signing for a long time, we rest our arms sometimes on the chair handle, but it is hard and hurts our elbows, so we lift it up again! The table is the same – it is hard as well. So now here, there is this idea from Australia! They made this beautiful table, which is soft and well made. I rest my elbow and understood immediately – wow – really easy to sign. My interpreter and I can be at the same height and it is really easy for her to sign and me to read her signs. It is really easy now! What a fantastic idea! I hope that in the future, many people will see this table and get excited with this new idea. It is really great! Thank you so much to all of you in Australia. Big applause to you!
