Deafblind Community NSW

We are so proud to learn about what our Deafblind peers are doing in NSW! The Hunter Deafblind Group in Newcastle run a “hub” (drop-in program) every second Friday, and do amazing work supporting deafblind people and their families, including advocacy, research and outreach. They have recently started activities in Sydney too!

Stephen Hallinan and Jex Truran-Lakeaev are deafblind and work with the Hunter Deafblind Project. This week they visited DBV along with support staff Justine and Alisha, to share our experiences and build community. They also met with many members at a craft group event led by DBV’s Kathy Wise.

See below for photos and a short video from Jex about the visit. Jex said “We’re visiting DBV to meet members, share information, get some advice, and build relationships.

It’s awesome to meet people from such a powerful organisation who have worked so hard together. So united!”

We enjoyed their visit so much. We hope to see our interstate friends again very soon and wish them all the best with their wonderful work.
