Hello, Heather here. I would like to share another Deafblind tip called “folding cane”. Many Deafblind people go out with friends, family, or commguides, and find it hard to communicate in sign language while holding a cane. I will show you a few ways to rest your arms and prevent your cane from getting dirty on the floor, like at a cafe.
Enjoy this video, which shows my folded cane in different ways: tucked in my belt, hooked over a chair frame, tucked in the strap of my backpack, in its pouch on my belt, and my extended cane hanging from the coat hook at DBV in our “cane parking bay”! I also show my extended cane tied to a tram pole inside a tram. The way I tie the cane to the tram pole holds it secure while travelling, but allows me to easily grab it without untying it.
