Deaf Festival October 2025

DBV had a wonderful time at the Deaf Festival this past weekend. Our recreation program was in attendance, and we ran our own DBV stall to make deafblindness visible to the Deaf community.

There were many different stalls to visit and deaf-made crafts and accessories to buy. One deafblind attendee joked, “drag me away before I spend all my money!”

The DBV stall was busy all day. We were thrilled by how much interest people showed, and we sold many t-shirts with deafblind awareness messages on them. A deaf migrant with low vision received peer support and valuable information about coping with vision loss as a deaf person.

The performances were fantastic and deafblind people loved getting up and joining in the dancing.

Many great conversations were had with old and new friends throughout the day.

A huge thank you to Expression Australia for organising this event, and an even bigger thank you to our amazing DBV staff and volunteers who worked hard all day to keep the stall running.
