In May 2025, the DBV Recreation Program visited SENSAS, an escape room designed to be inclusive and accessible for people with disability. Each room had its own challenge โ laser mazes, tasting food, guessing smells, digging through a ball pit, and even playing charades. The space had tactile features and was welcoming for deafblind people.
Before the fun began, we met with the Sensas staff to make sure deafblind access was in place โ and weโre happy to report it was! One of the staff members said: โNow weโll know how to better make the experience accessible for future deafblind individuals.โ
Jasper summed it up: โAble-bodied adults get plenty of opportunities to just be silly without people questioning their capacity to โfunctionโ as adults. For people with disabilities, it can be harder to let loose without worrying about what others will assume. This event gave us all the chance to be absolutely ridiculous in a safe space among peers โ and thatโs pretty special.โ
