Tech Talk 17 – Phone stands and phone lanyard

Have you ever been on a video call and couldn’t find anything to hold up your phone? Or have you lost your phone and wondered if there’s a way to keep it secure? Today, Andrew Howard shares some handy gadgets that may help.

Video translation:

Hello, my name is Andrew Howard. Today I want to tell you about some technology that I think can be really helpful for deafblind people.

[Andrew shows a small disc-shaped object.] It’s no good on some surfaces like wood, but it sticks onto glass or plastic. You can adjust the angle, so when you attach your phone to it, you can take a photo or make a video call with your hands free. It works well on windows and kitchen cupboards.

You can buy it from those places you find in the middle of the walkway at a shopping centre, where they sell phone covers and do repairs. I found it in a glass cabinet when I was walking past.

This next gadget is from the same shop. [Andrew shows small round phone stand with a picture of an orange on it.] I love the orange! So cool. It sticks with a magnet to the back of the phone, and you open it to stand your phone on a table. It’s good for video calls and taking photos.

The third gadget is from the same shop. [Andrew shows a long lanyard that is bright orange and attached to the phone.] I wear it around my neck. It is good and strong with a double knot. It is comfortable and helps me keep my phone close, so if I fall, I won’t lose it or risk having it stolen. People should never steal!

When its hangs on my body I can feel it vibrate. I also can attach it to my wrist, and I’ll take it off when I am getting ready for bed. This gadget is great when you are out walking around.

Thanks for watching!
