Early this year, Melbourne Polytechnic moved from Prahran to Collingwood. On 4th May 2024 Deafblind presenters from DBV visited the Collingwood campus with our commguides to present a Deafblind World workshop.
55 Auslan students attended, from Melbourne and regional areas. This was a huge number of participants!
The three Deafblind presenters – Alison, Rodney, and Heather – shared information about deafblindness, deafblind communication, technology, and gave a guiding demonstration, followed by questions and answers.
DBV would like to say many thanks to our wonderful Auslan interpreters for their involvement in the successful workshop. Thank you to the Deafblind presenters too! A great team effort.
We received many positive comments from the students. Here are some highlights:
• The activity was eye opening, I have a better understanding of the barriers and obstacles deafblind people face everyday in their lives. I’m happy to be a part of this activity.
• I thought it was interesting learning about haptics, seeing how the interpreters communicated what was happening in the audience, it was very enlightening.
• This was much more interesting than I had imagined and I’m glad I attended.
