The NDIS is currently being reviewed. The review looks at how the NDIS is working, and makes recommendations for changes. DBV believes that the NDIS should fund self-advocacy groups like DBV; these groups are very important for people with disability.
On Thursday 13th of July, Trudy Ryall represented DBV at a meeting with the NDIS Review team. The meeting was organised by SARU (the Self Advocacy Resource Unit), and included people from Brain Injury Matters, Rainbow Rights, DBV and other self advocacy groups.

Trudy shared her experiences as a Deafblind person. She said that it is very difficult for Deafblind people to apply for grants because the process requires high skills in formal English. She told the NDIS review team about the shortage of commguides and interpreters, and about how DBV supports the Deafblind community.
DBV would like thank Melanie from SARU for organising this meeting, and her ongoing support of DBV. We also thank the NDIS review team for listening to the self advocacy groups, and we very much hope the NDIS review will recommend funding self-advocacy groups in future.
