It is with deep sorrow that we share the news of the passing of Joanne Porter, a cherished member of Deafblind Victoria. Jo touched many lives and will be profoundly missed.
Here is a personal tribute from our President Alex Sar:
Saddened to hear the sad news that one of the Deafblind Community’s finest has passed away.
Jo was an active member of the Deafblind Community and lived life to the fullest.
Passionate about the Deafblind Community, her tireless reminders to everyone of how good Dustin Martin was as a player and her endless passion for the Richmond Football Club.
Jo is known for attending many Deafblind events and over the past few Deafblind Camps worked with me and others to deliver the best camps possible.
Jo’s sense of humour, her tireless advocacy and her ability to make you laugh were her biggest traits.
For many years, Jo showed me how to live life and I’ll always remember her fondly.
Earlier this year, we booked a time to meet up at Jo’s favourite pub the Upper Ferntree Gully Hotel. I plan to go there in a few weeks to drink a couple of pints to do this for Jo.
Thank you for being an awesome friend, as you move into the next phase of your journey, say hello to our Deafblind friends, give them your famous tight hugs and we’ll catch up soon.
Rest in peace darling Jo, gonna miss you.
