Deafblind Victoria held our 17th workshop for 2023 in partnership with Expression Australia (Melbourne) to provide our first PD training run by Deafblind Victoria staff for Expression’s support workers. There were about 28 participants who were a mixture of deaf, hearing, and hard of hearing .
Three deafblind presenters Joe, Jasper and myself as a team provided various activities so the participants can experience the world that deafblind people live everyday life and shared lots of information during morning and afternoon sessions.
Thank you interpreters as always for the accessible communications for me as tactile Auslan, Joe as visual frame, Jasper as deafblind fingerspelling. Again thanks to Joe and Jasper for great contributions.
Feedback from the participants was overwhelmingly positive. Some of the participants feedback about this workshop include:
* Learnt how to guide a Deafblind person and communicate with them.
Their stories and experiences were interesting.
* I loved hearing each Deafblind person’s story.
* I thought it was incredible educational and informative. Heather,
Jasper and Joe are amazing people. Thank you for sharing your
experience with us.
* I hope to work with Deafblind community in the future.
* I learnt more about the technology and more history of individual
Deafblind people.
* I loved the addition of Deafblind guiding into the workshop. It was
amazing!
* Having 3 prominent members of the Deafblind community sharing their
own stories was extremely valuable.
Thank you from Heather and the team at Deafblind Victoria.
